Memphis, TN : Two joggers hit by car in Midtown on Thursday evening, May 7, 2015

Two women, who were using a crosswalk near Overton Park, were hit by a car on Thursday evening. The driver now faces several charges.

Witnesses say the women may have been jogging. Many runners and walkers say the intersection of Cooper Street and Poplar Avenue in Midtown is one of the most difficult areas to cross.

"A lot of people are in a hurry on Poplar Avenue," said Barry Roberson, with Breakaway Running. "There is one sidewalk headed east, no sidewalk headed west toward the main entrance to Overton Park."

Police say the driver, Jessica Watters, 32, did stay on the scene. She is charged with running a stop sign, DUI, public intoxication, reckless driving, and two counts of vehicular assault.

The two women were taken to Regional Medical Center. At last check, both were in critical condition.
