A car driven by Jeanette M. Smith of Spring Valley was northbound on Power Street and received severe rear-end damage after the impact with the westbound bus in the intersection before striking a telephone pole, according to police. The bus received minor front-end damage, and the car was towed from the scene.
Spring Valley Elementary Superintendent Jim Hermes said there were no injuries to students during the crash. He said another bus came and picked them up before transporting them to John F. Kennedy School.
Parents were notified of the incident shortly after. Police said a total of 32 students were on the bus at the time of the crash.
“We sent it out to the parents to let them know what took place,” he said. “And they could come up to the school to check on their kids.”
School administrators and staff members went to the scene to check on students, police said.
Neither Spring Valley fire department or 10/33 Ambulance were dispatched to the scene as both drivers did not require medical treatment. The bus is owned by Johannes Bus Service.
