Midwest City,OK : 10-year-old boy crawls a quarter of a mile home after hit-and-run on February, Wednesday 14th 2018
A boy in Texas was forced to crawl home after being struck by a hit-and-run driver.
“[I was] scared, I really didn’t know what was gonna happen, I’d never had an injury at a time that bad,” Caden Walsh told KXAN. “I haven’t ever broken any bones, not nothing.”
Walsh's mom, Heather Brady, said her son showed up after school on Feb. 9 with a large gash on his leg. He had been walking home from his Austin elementary school when a driver went up on the sidewalk and struck him.
The force of the impact shoved Walsh into a tree. He became disoriented and began crawling toward home when he realized how much he was bleeding.
Walsh’s stepfather, Jay Brady, had just started to wonder where the boy was when he heard a noise at the door.
“He’s down at the bottom of the stairs, his leg is just covered in blood, he probably has a ball-peen hammer-sized chunk of his leg missing, he’s just screaming blood-curdling screams,” Brady recalled.
Walsh was rushed to the hospital and given stitches for the wound on his leg.
“He could have been dead on the side of the road because somebody just took off, because they didn’t care enough to even go check on him, they just took off. What kind of person does that?” Walsh’s mother asked.
Brady asked around local businesses to see if anyone had any surveillance video, but all said they didn't. Family members now hope a witness will come forward.
“Somebody out there knows something and we just want that person to come forward so we can get justice for our 10-year-old son," Walsh’s mother said.
Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact them.
