Fort Hill, GA : Three children injured when man crashes SUV into church on Saturday, May 2, 2015

A 25-year-old Macon man was jailed Sunday after allegedly crashing an SUV with three children aboard into the side of a Fort Hill church about midnight Saturday.

Bibb County sheriff’s deputies said that after the wreck, which left a 3-year-old boy in critical condition, driver Dontavius Marquez King fled the scene, leaving the children in the SUV.

The 1999 Ford Expedition that King was said to be driving struck the side of Memorial Baptist Church at Norris and Woolfolk streets, just north of Emery Highway, not far from historic Fort Hawkins.

Two other children in the SUV, a 1-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, were not seriously hurt, officials said. By Sunday afternoon, the 3-year-old’s condition had improved and he was no longer in critical condition, deputies said.

King, of a Tarver Court address near Bowden Golf Course, was caught Sunday morning at a city hospital and charged with three counts of first-degree cruelty to children. Other charges include an alleged probation violation.
