Heber City, UT : 3 killed, 2 hurt in head-on highway crash near Heber City on Tuesday, February 14, 2017
Three people died and two others were hospitalized after a head-on highway crash near Hebert City on Tuesday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred early Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 40 near Heber City when a Honda sedan crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a Kia, Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said. Both cars were traveling faster than the speed limit, Royce said.
The drivers of both cars died, along with a female passenger in the Honda.
The names of the dead and injured weren’t immediately made public.
One of the hospitalized is a woman who was in extremely critical condition, Royce said. The other is a man who was treated for injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening.
Investigators don’t know why the sedan crossed into oncoming traffic, Royce said.
The highway was closed for several hours while authorities investigated.
Hebert City is a small mountain city about 45 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
