BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, MI : Deputy unhurt in accident on February, Monday 12th 2018
Branch County Sheriff Deputy Roy Shutts escaped injury Monday morning after debris smashed in his patrol car window.
Undersheriff Keith Eichler said Shutts had delivered a prisoner to the Department of Corrections Reception Center northeast of Jackson and were headed back to Coldwater around 8:50 a.m.
“He was west bound on I-94 when a semi-truck traveling in front lost some it’s load. The items being hauled were metal, and a piece of the debris fell off the truck and struck the patrol unit in the hood, then came through the windshield inches from striking Deputy Shutts,” the undersheriff explained.
Shutts was not injured, but was covered in glass from the windshield. The accident near Airport Road was investigated by Blackman Twp. Police, and assisted by MSP Motor carrier division.
The leased patrol car is now in for repairs.
