BIWABIK TOWNSHIP, MN : An Aurora resident has died after causing a multiple vehicle crash on May, Wednesday, 10th 2017
An Aurora resident has died after causing a multiple vehicle crash around 6:50 p.m. Wednesday in Biwabik Township.
Marilyn L. Kriner, 66, of Aurora, was driving her 2005 Chevy Classic eastbound on Highway 135 near milepost 12 when she went over the center line into the westbound lane, according to the Minnesota State Patrol (MSP).
Kriner sideswiped a semi being driven by Todd A. Statsman, 40, of Eveleth, and continued into the westbound lane where her vehicle was struck broadside on the passenger side by a Toyota 4 Runner being driven by Mary M. Walker, 48, of Hibbing.
Kriner, who was wearing a seatbelt and had an airbag deploy, died at the scene.
Statsman was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time, and no airbag deployed.
Walker was airlifted to St. Mary’s in Duluth for non-life threatening injuries, according to the MSP. She was wearing a seatbelt and had an airbag deploy.
Alcohol was not a factor. Road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.
Assisting the MSP were St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, Gilbert Police Department and the East Range Police Department.
This was the second crash on Highway 135 Wednesday.
The first happened around 2 p.m. near Aurora when the driver of a 2013 Ford Taurus crossed the center line of the southbound lane and collided head-on with a 2005 Chevy Impala in the northbound lane, an MSP report states.
Elias J. Cersine, 26, of Eveleth, was driving the Impala and died as a result of the crash. He was not wearing a seat belt.
The Taurus driver, Ryan P. Hughes, 37, of Aurora, sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was wearing a seat belt and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.
Assisting the MSP were the East Range Police, Gilbert Police Departments, Aurora and Hoyt Lakes fire departments and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
