KNOXVILLE, TN : 1 person injured in crash on I-40W in Knoxville on Wednesday, 26th October 2022

A multivehicle crash along westbound Interstate 40 near downtown Knoxville Wednesday morning caused some traffic delays and sent one person to the hospital. The crash initially shut down all westbound lanes and shoulders near the incident.

The area has since reopened, and Knoxville Police Department investigators are working to determine the cause. Initial information shared by KPD communications manager Scott Erland indicates that two passenger vehicles and a tractor-trailer were involved in the crash.

One person was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center but their condition and the extent of their injuries were unknown as of 10:30 a.m.

The crash occurred near the 388 mile marker at I-275 and blocked all lanes of traffic as well as the North Broadway exit ramp. The Tennessee Department of Transportation reported the crash around 6 a.m.

Knoxville Police advised drivers to seek alternate routes if possible.
