Cleveland, Oh : Women killed, four injured after car crashes into Family dollar in Cleveland on April 26th 2014
A 27-year-old woman died and four people were injured after the car they were traveling in crashed into Family Dollar on Broadway Avenue late Saturday, according to police.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner has not released the woman's identity. After the crash she was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where she died, police said.
The driver, a 34-year-old Warrensville Heights man, will be arrested and charged with aggravated vehicular assault after being released from MetroHealth Medical Center, police said.
Three more passengers were taken to MetroHealth Medical Center to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
The crash occurred around 11 p.m. at the Family Dollar at 8003 Broadway, police said. A preliminary investigation revealed the car was traveling faster than the posted 25 mph speed limit when its driver lost control and hit the store.
The crash appears to be alcohol-related, police said.
Several people who witnessed the accident said Sunday that the car caught fire after the crash. People who were inside the Wendy's located across the street came outside used fire extinguishers to put out the fire, they said.
Clyde Johnson of Cleveland said he was in his car at the Wendy's drive-thru window when the crash happened.
"I saw the car in flames," he said. "I saw people standing all around it, and people being pulled out of the car."
The store sustained minor damage, with part of its brick exterior being destroyed. A Family Dollar employee said Sunday that the crash did not affect business inside the store, and that no one was inside Saturday night when the crash happened. Family Dollar closed at 9 p.m. on Saturday.
