WARREN, ME : Two people are dead and three vehicles smashed up after a head-on crash on May, Monday 1st 2017
Two people are dead, and three vehicles smashed up, after a head-on crash on Route 1 in Warren on Monday.
Knox County sheriff deputies said one of the victims crossed the centerline around 6:20 a.m.
Knox County Chief Deputy Tim Carroll said 57-year-old Kenneth Chipman III of Warren crossed the centerline in his car, hitting two SUVs head-on.
“The gentleman that crossed the line doesn’t live very far from there,” Carroll said. “He was headed into town, into Rockland. And for what reason he crossed the line, we don’t know at this point.”
Carroll said Chipman died in the crash as did the driver of the second SUV he hit, 67-year-old Cheryl Brimson of Rockport. Her husband, John, survived the crash.
The driver of the other SUV also survived. Deputies say other crashes have occurred on Route 1 in Warren. So much so, that the state recently installed rumble strips on the stretch to alert drivers who inadvertently cross the centerline.
The accident remains under investigation.
