Fort Wayne,IN : Fort Wayne woman airlifted after car rolls over in two-vehicle collision on U.S. 30 on May, Friday 18th 2018
A Fort Wayne woman had to be removed by helicopter Friday afternoon from a traffic crash that briefly closed U.S. 30.
Porter County Sheriff's police said they were called about 3 p.m. to the eastbound lanes of the highway between County Roads 450 East and 575 East where a white 2002 Nissan Maxima and a white 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer collided.
Police said their initial investigation showed the Nissan was westbound on US 30 just east of CR 575 E when the driver, 42-year-old Sandra Izaguirre of Fort Wayne, swerved for unknown reasons, veered left of center and struck an eastbound semi.
Emergency workers extricated her from her vehicle, which had rolled over and landed on its roof. She was airlifted by Lutheran Air to Christ Advocate in Chicago for internal injuries. She was conscious and speaking during the extrication, police said. The westbound lanes of U.S. 30 were closed for a time to allow the landing of the helicopter.
Her son, 20-year-old Brandon Izaguirre, also of Fort Wayne, a passenger in the Nissan, crawled out of the vehicle. He was transported to Porter Regional Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the semi, 33-year-old Yurity Yevsa of New York, was not injured and his truck received only minor damage.
Police said Sandra Izaguirre was found to have a suspended license.
Police credited the Washington Township Fire Department, the Porter Emergency Medical Services, Lutheran Air, Sandberg’s Towing and the Porter County Central Communications with assisting in the rescue.
