Salt Lake City, UT : California woman, son remain in critical condition after I-15 crash near St. George on Monday, August 8, 2016
A California woman and her young son remained in critical condition Monday, after being ejected from a rolling SUV on Interstate 15 near St. George.
The Utah Highway Patrol reported that the woman and a 9-year-old boy were riding in a GMC Yukon when the boy's father apparently fell asleep at the wheel about 6:45 a.m. The vehicle drifted off the northbound lanes and into the median, about 3 miles north of the Arizona border.
The driver awoke, overcorrected back to the left and crossed back over the freeway to the right and into a dirt shoulder, where it rolled twice.
All occupants — the woman, the boy, the driver and two girls — were transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. The boy was then flown to University Medical Center in Las Vegas; his mother remained at DRMC in critical condition.
The driver and two girls, ages 10 and 7, sustained minor injuries.
The family was from Azusa, Calif., UHP said.
The accident remained under investigation.
