Bend, OR : Motorcyclist dies in early morning crash near Prineville on Saturday, September 2, 2017
A motorcyclist died early Saturday morning after speeding through a stop sign and colliding with a semitrailer at Woodward Road and U.S. Highway 26 just west of Prineville, according to Oregon State Police.
The motorcyclist, who has not yet been identified, was riding on a blue Yamaha sport bike at about 2:30 a.m., southbound on Woodward Road, approaching the highway. The motorcyclist continued past the stop sign directly in front of a westbound white cabbed 2017 Freightliner semi trailer.
The collision killed the motorcyclist on impact, OSP said.
The semi trailer, driven by Eric Cooper, 51, of Mossyrock, Washington, drove up the bank and overturned, stopping on its side in the eastbound lane of the highway.
Cooper was transported by ambulance to a Prineville area hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
Highway 26 was closed for about 5 hours while officers investigated the crash scene. OSP was helped by the Crook County Sheriff’s Office, Prineville Police, Oregon Department of Transportation and Crook County Fire and Rescue.
