Bartow,FL: Man gets 50 years for DUI crash, leaving scene on may, friday 19th 2017
A central Florida man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for a drunken driving crash that killed a motorcyclist.
The Ledger (https://goo.gl/ljki63 ) reports that 30-year-old Lorenzo Martinez was sentenced on Friday. The Guatemala native pleaded guilty in March to leaving the scene of an accident involving death, DUI manslaughter and driving while his license was suspended or revoked.
Authorities say Martinez was driving a friend’s SUV in January 2015 when he struck 23-year-old Michael Mallia’s bike from behind and continued to drive.
When deputies arrested Martinez nearly five hours later, his blood alcohol level was 0.12 percent. Florida law considers a driver impaired at 0.08 percent.
