New Bern, NC : One killed in truck collision on New Bern highway on Tuesday, August 8, 2017

A collision between two trucks left one person dead and caused the temporary closure of the U.S. 17 South bypass in New Bern on Tuesday.

The crash happened around noon near mile marker 144 on the stretch of four-lane highway that links U.S. 70 to U.S. 17 business near the Jones County line.

Heavy damage was reported to both vehicles, with a box truck appearing to hit the rear of a tractor-trailer. A fuel leak was also reported.

The N.C. Highway Patrol is investigating. The names of those involved in the crash have yet to be released.
