Deputy hurt after car slammed into her at another crash scene
A Volusia County deputy was airlifted to the hospital Monday night after a car slammed into her while she was assisting emergency responders with a different crash.
The deputy sustained minor bumps and bruises, according to Sheriff's Office spokesman Brandon Haught.
She was released from the hospital last night.
Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash involving the deputy, Haught said.
The deputy responded to the initial crash scene on Fort Smith Boulevard and S. Merrick Drive around 9:17 p.m.
When an ambulance was ready to pull off with the patient from the crash, the deputy stepped out into the street to direct the ambulance, deputies said.
"That's when another vehicle drove into the scene and struck the deputy," Haught said.
The patient from the initial crash was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
No additional information has been provided about either crash.
