A woman was killed and her children injured when her car skidded into the opposite lane and was hit by a pickup truck, the Seneca County Sheriff's Office said.
The crash occurred around noon Saturday on Route 89 in the town of Covert.
The sheriff's office said Marie L. Perez, 41, of Romulus, was driving a 2001 Ford Focus north on Route 89 when she apparently lost control on a curve. Her car skidded across the road and into the path of a southbound 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by 44-year-old Jonathan C. Cupp, 44, of Romulus.
The pickup truck hit the passenger side of the Ford Focus.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene with Trumansburg firefighters, New York State Police, Bangs Ambulance, Trumansburg Ambulance and South Seneca Ambulance.
The sheriff's office said Perez was pronounced dead at the scene by the Seneca County coroner. Her two children were riding in the back seat of the car at the time of the accident. Jasmine I. Uresti, 6, and Elaina ML Carlsen, 5, were in child restraints and survived the crash.
Uresti was taken by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment of head and arm injuries. Carlsen was taken to Upstate where she is being observed, the sheriff's office said.
Jonathan Cupp was transported to Upstate for observation. His sons were in the vehicle when the crash occurred. Braeden Cupp, 13, was a front seat passenger. He was taken to Upstate for treatment of contusions and abrasions. Gage Halsey, 13, the back seat passenger, was taken to Upstate for a head laceration.
The sheriff's office said the Focus was demolished and the Silverado was badly damaged. Both vehicles were towed away. The road was closed for about four hours.
