CAIRO, GA : Cairo man dies in head-on collision on Wednesday, September 13, 2017
A head-on collision between two drivers claimed the life of a Cairo man Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
Frank Minjarez, 23, the driver of a 2010 Toyota Avalon, collided head-on with Christopher Torres, 38, of Immokalee, Florida, on Highway 84, according to Sgt. 1st Class Tommy Peeples, Georgia State Patrol Post 12 commander.
Minjarez was traveling east in the left lane on Highway 84. Torres, driving a 2008 Chevorlet Silverado, was traveling west, also in the left lane, Peeples said.
"The driver of the Toyota exited his travel lane and traveled through the center turning lane," Peeples said.
The Silverado driver attempted "evasive action" by steering into the right outside westward lane on Highway 84, Peeples added.
The collision occurred in the right lane of Highway 84 westbound.
Torres was wearing a seat belt and Minajarez was not, Peeples said.
Torres was transported to Archbold Medical Center.
Toxicology results are pending but drug or alcohol use is not suspected, the commander noted.
The wreck occurred at 3:40 p.m.
