Washington County, PA : 46-year-old Bentleyville man dies in 1-car crash on West Pike Run road on Friday evening, November 28, 2014
A Bentleyville man died Friday evening shortly after crashing his car into a utility pole along a West Pike Run road.
State police said Daniel G. Mraz, 46, of Huber Road was likely driving at a high speed in a Honda Civic around 7:45 p.m. when he failed to navigate a right bend along California Drive and hit the wooden pole.
The car came to a stop after striking a large tree, police said.
A Washington County deputy coroner declared Mraz's cause of death as blunt force trauma.
The victim was declared dead 8:50 p.m. before firefighters extricated him from the car.
Bentleyville Fire Chief Ron Sicchitano Sr. said the extrication was necessary because the car roof had collapsed.
State troopers from the Belle Vernon Barracks used flashlights to examine the roadside and a bordering field. Troopers said Saturday morning the accident was still under investigation.
Firefighters from the Bentleyville and Richeyville volunteer departments and Fort Cherry Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
