Alamance County, N.C : Four teens injured in Alamance County crash Thursday night on July 17, 2014

Four teenagers were injured in a single-vehicle wreck after their vehicle flipped multiple times Thursday night.

The driver, Dakota J. Morton, 18, of Snow Camp, was reportedly driving north on Friendship Patterson Mill Road when his vehicle struck the right shoulder near Doctor Pickett Road shortly after 7 p.m., according to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Tommy Day. The driver then overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle which flipped several times before hitting a power pole.

Morton was taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill via helicopter for his injuries. He was charged with speeding and driving recklessly, according to Day. The other three passengers were taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center for their injuries.

Chelsea Hamby, 17, of Snow Camp, was sitting in the front seat of the vehicle, but was walking around and conscious, Day said. Two 15-year-old boys, one from Snow Camp and the other from Liberty, were sitting in the back of the vehicle. One had a gash in his head, Day said, adding he couldn’t characterize the other boy’s injuries.

Speed was a factor in the wreck, Day said.

According to a Duke Energy power outage map, there were at least 50 customers in the area without power at 10 p.m.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol was assisted by the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, E.M. Holt Fire Department and Alamance Emergency Medical Services.
