Decatur, AL : Pedestrian dies in US 31 wreck in Decatur on Monday, 12th September 2016
A 21-year-old female was killed after being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 31 in Decatur late Monday, authorities said.
The victim was struck by a Ford SUV in the northbound lanes around 8:30 p.m.
The wreck occurred in front of Clayton Homes at the 3600 block of the highway near Lenwood Drive Southeast.
The cause of death was blunt force trauma, said Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn, who declined to identify the victim pending notification of family.
The northbound lanes were closed for more than two hours as Decatur police investigated at the scene. Traffic was rerouted to flow both directions — one in each of the southbound lanes.
The wreck remains under investigation.
