PRUNTYTOWN, WV : Two-vehicle accident on Rt. 50 on Monday, July 3, 2017

Crews were called to the scene of two-vehicle accident, late Monday morning, that resulted in one patient being transported for minor injuries.

According to Grafton’s Deputy Fire Chief, Ryan Roberts, the accident happened on Route 50, near the West Virginia National Cemetery, at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Upon arrival it was discovered that a female driving a Volkswagen Jetta heading eastbound, had struck the back end of a U.S postal Jeep, which was attempting to pull back into traffic, also heading east.

“The impact of the collision caused the Jetta to turn onto its side,” reported Roberts.

The Taylor County Medical Emergency Squad transported the male driver of the Jeep to Grafton City Hospital for evaluation, while the driver of the Jetta, refused transport.

The Grafton Fire Department, Taylor County EMS and West Virginia State Police responded to the call.

Roberts wants to remind motor vehicle operators to exercise caution when seeing a postal vehicle pull off alongside of the roadway.

“It is always a good idea to slow down when you see a postal vehicle, or even stop and allow them to safely pull back out into traffic, if at all possible,” he informed. “This accident had the potential to be a lot worse. We are just thankful that both parties were able to walk away.”
