A 28-year old Portage man was taken to the hospital Monday night after he was struck by a car while riding his moped.
Matthew Cannon was transported to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus with injuries to his head and shoulder. His condition was unknown Tuesday morning.
Cannon was riding his moped just after 9 p.m. on Blake Road near Sherwin Avenue when he was allegedly struck by a car driven by Christopher Voynovich, 34, of Portage.
Witnesses told police Cannon was stopped at the intersection and his headlight was visible before turning onto Blake Road. The witness said Voynovich was north on Blake and made a sharp turn onto Sherwin.
The witness also told police Voynovich told her he didn’t see Cannon before or during the impact, according to the report.
According to the police report, Voynovich appeared intoxicated.
He allegedly told police he drank 13 to 14 beers the night before and had consumed a pint of vodka and three more beers since 1 p.m. Monday.
Voynovich was charged with felony operating while intoxicated resulting in serious bodily injury and three misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated.
