CLARKSFIELD, OH : Local woman, child flown to hospital after traffic accident on Monday, March 20th 2017
Five people were injured, including several seriously, in a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 6:27 p.m. Monday in Clarksfield Township.Draven B. Matthews, 23, of New London, was driving a 2005 Honda Accord west on Cook Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign for the Ohio 60 intersection and entered the path of a southbound 2001 Volkswagen Passat, causing a collision, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol’s Norwalk post.
After the collision, both vehicles slid off the right side of the road and the Volkswagen overturned, coming to a rest in the ditch.
The driver of the Volkswagen, Bridget K.G. Kistler, 23, of New London, sustained incapacitating injuries and was flown from the scene to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center. Seat belt use is unknown.
Kistler’s young daughter, whose name and age currently are unknown, was sitting in the front seat, wearing a seat belt but not restrained in a child seat. She sustained incapacitating injuries and initially was transported by Citizen’s EMS to Fisher-Titus Medical Center. She later was flown to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center.
Matthews, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained incapacitating injuries in the crash and was taken by Firelands EMS to Fisher-Titus.
Two passengers in the Honda also were hospitalized.
Calvin J. Neal, 20, of New London, was riding in the back seat and was not wearing a seat belt. He sustained incapacitating injuries in the crash and was flown from the scene to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center.
Krystiana M. Strojin, of Medina, was riding in the back seat and also not wearing a seat belt. She sustained incapacitating injuries in the crash and was transported to Fisher-Titus.
The Volkswagen sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Wilcox Towing.
The Honda also sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene by Jensen’s Towing.
Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.
Assisting agencies include Huron County Sheriff’s Office, New London Fire Department, Cleveland MetroHealth LifeFlight, Fireland’s EMS, Wakeman Fire Department, Citizen’s EMS, Wilcox Towing, Jensen’s Towing and Clark Brother’s Towing.
