Des Moines, IA : Iowa County crashes sends 4 to hospital, authorities say on Thursday, December 8th 2016

Two two-vehicle crashes on Highway 14 in Iowa County Thursday sent four people to hospitals, with one driver suffering serious injuries.

The crashes happened one after another in the same locale, the second one a result of the first, the Sheriff's Office said.

It happened at about 4:40 p.m. on Highway 14 at Dover Lane in the town of Arena.

Authorities said a westbound truck was stopped on Highway 14 waiting to make a left turn onto Dover Lane when the truck was struck from behind by a westbound van.

A westbound car stopped for the crash was then struck from behind by another westbound car.

The driver of one vehicle had to be extricated and was taken by Med Flight to UW Hospital in Madison, the report said.
