Gilroy, CA : 17-year-old boy killed in crash on Highway 25 on Monday December 7 2015
A 17-year-old boy was killed Monday morning after losing control of his car while speeding down a twisty rural stretch of road south of Gilroy, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A witness told authorities they saw the teen's 1988 Chevy speeding north at about 60 mph in a 45 mph zone on Bolsa Road north of Bloomfield Avenue, the area behind the Christopher Ranch facility. The boy's car crossed over the solid double yellow line and sideswiped a Nissan driven by a 31-year-old Gilroy woman shortly after 8 a.m.
The boy's car crossed the southbound lanes and went off the roadway, crashing into a tree before coming to a rest at the bottom of an embankment.
The boy, who hailed from Tres Pinos in San Benito County, was not identified pending family notification. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman, who was estimated to be driving between 35 to 40 mph, was not injured and is not facing any charges. The crash remains under investigation, and officials have not determined if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.
