Edmond, OK : Two people killed after wrong-way car crash on I-35 near Covell on Sunday, April 17, 2016

Two people are dead after a wrong-way car crash in Edmond.

State Troopers say a 1999 Ford Expedition was traveling north on I-35 near Covell at a high rate of speed, when it crossed the center barrier, pushing through the protective cables and heading the wrong way in the southbound lanes.

The car, driven by David Stephen Blair II, clipped a 2016 Honda Pilot before striking a Chrysler minivan head on.

The 43-year-old driver of the minivan, Philip John Hess, died at the scene. A two-year-old girl in the minivan also died.

Blair and his passenger in the car that caused the collision are at OU Medical Center in critical condition. They were not wearing seatbelts.

OHP is investigating Blair's condition as well as the exact cause of the collision.

The area was shut down while crews worked to clear the scene.
