EAST CALN, PA : Victim ID’d in Route 30 Bypass fatal crash on Wednesday, September 27th 2017
One driver died Wednesday night in a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a car reportedly traveling the wrong way on the Route 30 Bypass, shutting down the eastbound lanes overnight, state police said.
The crash occurred about 11 p.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes on the Bypass, west of Route 113 in East Caln Township, in the Downingtown area. Pennsylvania State Police said Keith Allan Ream, 23, of Coatesville, the sole occupant, was killed in the accident. State police said the crash occurred when his vehicle, traveling west, collided head-on with a tractor trailer traveling east, and he was ejected following the impact of the crash. Ream was pronounced dead at the scene by the Chester County Coroner’s Office. State police said Ream traveled westbound in his Hyundai sedan in the eastbound lanes. It was not immediately known how he entered the westbound lanes. The crash is under investigation by state police.
The crash, along with a fuel spill, forced all traffic off the Bypass at the Route 322 Manor Avenue exit into Downingtown. The westbound lanes remained open. The eastbound lanes reopened by 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.
State police were assisted by the Downingtown Police Department, Downingtown Fire Department consisting of Minquas and Alert Fire Companies, Thorndale Fire Company, Minquas EMS, fire police, PennDOT, Miller’s Towing and Fling’s Towing. State police conducted the crash investigation in the eastbound lanes on the Bypass between Routes 282 and 113.
