Warren Street Bypass accident leaves five children injured

Police are investigating an accident that left a driver and five children injured on the Warren Street Bypass in Reading. The accident happened shortly before 11:45 p.m. Sunday in the westbound lanes of the highway, near River Road. Police told 69 News it appears a woman lost control of her vehicle and drove into a ditch.

One of the young victims a 5-year-old boy was flown to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia with a head injury, police said. A 7-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle and suffered pelvic and back injuries; another 7-year-old girl had injuries to her face, police said.

An infant girl and a 2-year-old child were both in car seats and suffered minor injuries, police said. The woman driving the vehicle also suffered minor injuries, according to police. The Warren Street Bypass was closed for about three hours following the accident, police said.
