Santa Paula,CA : Victims of fatal weekend vehicle crashes identified on December, Wednesday 27th 2017

The victims of two fatal vehicle crashes that occurred over the weekend on county roadways near Santa Paula were identified Wednesday by California Highway Patrol officials.

Benjamin Lizama, 26, of Santa Paula, died Friday in a crash off of Balcom Canyon Road south of Santa Paula, officials said.

A male passenger in his 30s, also from Santa Paula, suffered major injuries in the incident and was taken to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks.

According to CHP officials, Lizama was driving sometime before 4:30 p.m. Friday on Balcom Canyon Road when for unknown reasons his truck veered off the road and into the bottom of a canyon.

The crash sparked a small brush fire in the area that was contained by Ventura County Fire Department crews at a quarter-acre in size just before 5 p.m., officials said.
