Dover, DE : Dover firefighters rescue woman after crash on Friday, February 17th 2017
Dover firefighters literally tore a car apart Friday night to rescue a woman after a single-vehicle crash.
DFD spokesman Michael O'Connor said firefighters and EMS personnel were alerted at about 10:04 p.m. Feb. 16 about the crash, which took place in the area of Acorn Lane and North Little Creek Road.
The vehicle had gone off the roadway and into a tree, leaving the driver trapped inside, O'Connor said. Crews stabilized the car, cut off the roof and driver's side doors and pushed the dashboard forward, he said. They also had to cut through the back of the driver's seat to free the woman.
The injured woman was flown by Delaware State Police helicopter to a trauma center for treatment.
Dover city police are investigating the incident, O'Connor said.
