Three children were taken to the hospital following a bus crash Tuesday morning, according to Richmond County Schools.
Bus No. 155, which was transporting 10 students to the Ninth Grade Academy, Richmond Senior High School and Richmond Early College, was involved in a wreck on U.S. 74 West near Zion Church Road, Ashley Michelle Thublin, public information officer, said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon.
According to Thublin, one student was taken to the hospital by ambulance to be checked out and two others were taken by their parents.
In addition to the N.C. Highway Patrol, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and emergency medical services, district administrators, school principals and bus mechanics were at the scene, she said.
Jim Butler, principal of Richmond Senior, contacted the parents of each rider while they were still on the bus, Thublin added.
She also said a few parents picked up their children from the scene, while the others were taken to school on a different bus, given the opportunity to call their parents and eat breakfast.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
