Bartonville, IL : Two people killed in head-on collision on US Route 24 near Peoria on Monday, December 14, 2015

A Bradley University senior and a Peoria woman were identified Tuesday as the victims of Monday’s head-on collision on U.S. Route 24 south of Bartonville.
Zakery Haubrich, 21, of Quincy, and Rhonda Brooks, 55, 3119 N. Ellis St., Peoria, were pronounced dead at the scene at 6:12 p.m. Monday, Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll said Tuesday morning. Each driver was wearing a seat belt and driving alone.
Autopsies Tuesday revealed both drivers died from multiple blunt force injuries, Ingersoll said.
The accident occurred at 4:42 p.m. on Route 24, about three-tenths of a mile west of Tuscarora Road. Brooks was eastbound on Route 24, headed home from her job at Seico Security in Pekin, Ingersoll said. Her car drifted across the westbound lanes, up an embankment and then back across the westbound lanes, hitting a westbound 2014 Chevrolet Impala driven by Haubrich head-on.
Brooks had recently gone to a Peoria hospital regarding dizziness and a low potassium level, Ingersoll said. Further testing will be done to see if medical reasons caused Brooks to veer out of her lane.
Haubrich, a senior music business major at Bradley, was headed home for the semester break, said Stan Liberty, interim president of the university. Haubrich was a member of the Bradley Jazz Ensemble and Bradley Symphonic Winds. He was also involved with Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, Hilltop Studios and Musicians in Business.
“Our hearts go out to his family and friends,” Liberty said in an email to Bradley employees. “He will be missed by all. Flags on campus will fly at half-staff for three days to honor his memory.”
