Toledo, OH : 3 killed, 3 hospitalized in Jerusalem Twp. crash early Sunday morning, March 26, 2017
Three people died in a two-car crash early this morning, while three others were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Robin Shellhammer, 60, and Barbara Shellhammer, 60, both of Oregon, and Whitney Meinke, 33, of Curtice, died on the scene.
All three Lucas County residents were in a car driving east on Seaman Road. Alejandro Jaramillo, 26, of Asheboro, N. C., was driving a van north on Cousino Road. He failed to stop at a stop sign, and hit the car driven by Mr. Shellhammer.
Javier Cervera, 38, of Greensboro, N.C., and Pedro Martinez, unknown age and residence, were also in the van. All three people in the van were taken to Mercy Health St. Charles Hospital.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, and have said alcohol was a factor in the crash. No charges have been filed.
All three occupants in the van were wearing seatbelts, as was Mrs. Shellhammer. Mr. Shellhammer and Ms. Meinke were not wearing seatbelts.
This is the second fatal crash in the past week in Jerusalem Township. Three men died on the scene of a single-car crash on March 19.
