Charlotte County, FL : Bicyclist injured in Charlotte hit-and-run crash on Tuesday February 16 2016

A bicyclist was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday afternoon on U.S. 41, south of Punta Gorda.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, a bicyclist was riding in the bike lane of U.S. 41, about a half mile north of Oil Well Road at 5:15 p.m.
A red or maroon four-door newer-model sedan was traveling in north on U.S. 41 when it swerved right, striking the right front of the bicycle. The rider was thrown from the bike and landed in the unpaved right shoulder of the roadway.
The car continued northbound and fled the scene. The car is likely to have some damage to the right front end.
The bicycle rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. The FHP has not identified the rider, pending notification of next of kin.
