Yorkville, WI : Teen killed, three others injured in Racine County crash on Wednesday evening, June 15, 2016
A teenage girl seriously injured in a Wednesday evening crash in the town of Yorkville has died.
Union Grove High School Superintendent Al Mollerskov said Taylor Skendziel died Thursday night. She'd been taken by helicopter to Froedtert Hospital following the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Highway U and 2 Mile Road, Sgt. Charles Gehrand with the Racine County Sheriff's Office said.
A friend said the family is still reeling from the tragedy.
"I don't think they've even had time to process the fact that it's a loss," said Deb Redell. "They've done everything they've thought Taylor would want."
Skendziel was an aspiring nurse, who through organ donation will now have her caring spirit live on to help others.
"For everyone, Taylor touched their lives," Redell said.
Three other people were also injured in the crash but are expected to be OK.
According to officials, Skendziel and two other teenaged girls were in a 2003 Dodge Neon that was struck by a 2003 Honda Pilot SUV at about 6 p.m. Wednesday. Gehrand said the driver of the SUV, 58-year-old Samuel Han, didn't stop for a posted stop sign.
Han was taken to Wheaton All-Saints Hospital in Racine with non life-threatening injuries, St. Steve Sikora said. Skendziel, the driver of the Dodge, had to be extricated from the vehicle. Her passengers were identified as Charlee Warner and Sadie Regep, both 15 years old.
Warner was taken to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee with serious injuries and Regap was taken to Wheaton All-Saints Hospital in Racine with minor injuries and later released, Sikora said.
Mollerskov said that despite being closed for the summer, counseling services would be available at the school for students, staff, and family and friends of the teens until early Friday afternoon.
It wasn't clear by 11 a.m. Friday if criminal charges would be filed in the case.
A prayer vigil will be held for Skendziel at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Union Grove Baseball Park Trail.
