Lynchburg, VA : One injured in U.S. 29 crash on Tuesday, July 12, 2016

One person was hospitalized after a car overturned in a three-car crash on U.S. 29 on Tuesday.

Virginia State Trooper T.N. Wertz said the crash occurred at 5:50 p.m.

A 2006 Ford Escape driven by Joshua Leftwich, of Evington, pulled out in front of a tractor-trailer traveling southbound on U.S. 29. Wertz said the tractor-trailer hit the Ford Escape, sending the SUV into the median.

A 2006 Dodge pick-up driven by Brian Hunter, of Forest, then struck the Escape causing it to overturn.

Rescue crews pulled Leftwich from the vehicle after he became entrapped. He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, Wertz said.

Traffic was reduced to one lane as crews from the Lyn-Dan Heights Volunteer Fire Department worked to clear debris from the road.

Wertz said charges are pending related to the crash. All drivers were wearing seat belts.
