YACHATS, OR : Coos Bay man dies in crash on Highway 101 south of Yachats on Sunday, 18th March 2018
A Coos Bay man died Sunday in a multiple-vehicle crash on Highway 101 south of Yachats.
Oregon State Police and emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 11 a.m., OSP Lt. Cari Boyd said in a news release.
She said that 45-year-old of Jeremy Hackney of Coos Bay was driving north in a red 2002 Ford Ranger pickup truck when the vehicle drifted into the southbound lanes around a righthand curve.
The Ranger collided with a white 2013 Dodge pickup truck as well as a white 1998 Ford minivan that was behind the Dodge, according to Boyd. She said the Ranger continued to the west side of the highway and rolled onto the driver’s side.
Hackney died at the scene, according to Boyd. His wife and passenger, 43-year-old Stephanie Hackney, was transported to PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center in Florence for treatment of serious injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
No one else was injured in the crash, Boyd said.
Highway 101 was limited to one lane for about five hours after the crash during the investigation.
