Cedar City, UT : 1 dead, 1 injured in rollover crash on I-15 near Cedar City Wednesday night on July 9, 2014
A 19-year-old Park City woman was killed and her mother seriously injured when their car rolled multiple times down an Interstate 15 embankment near Cedar City late Wednesday night.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers believe 19-year-old Natalie P. Holt was driving southbound "at excessive speed" when the accident occurred at 10:37 p.m. Trying to avoid a deer in the road, the silver 2004 BMW X5 went out of control to the left, crossed the median and went through a cable barrier before rolling down a steep embankment and coming to rest on its roof.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said Thursday that Holt, believed to not have been wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and died at the scene. Her 56-year-old mother, Audrey N. Matthews, also from Park City, was wearing a seatbelt and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. Matthews was taken to Dixie Valley Regional Medical Center in Cedar City.
