Columbus, OH : 4-year-old dies after 4-vehicle crash on I-270 on Sunday, January, 28th 2018
A 4-year-old boy was fatally injured and his 6-year-old brother was critically injured when the minivan in which they were riding was struck from behind by an SUV on Interstate 270 between Route 62 and Interstate 71 on Sunday afternoon.
Matthew Cremeans died at Nationwide Children’s Hospital at 1:55 p.m., and his brother, Danny Cremeans, was in critical condition at the hospital.
Both of the boys were in the back seat of the GMC Safari and not wearing seat belts, and they were ejected upon impact when the crash occurred at 12:38 p.m. in Jackson Township in southwestern Franklin County, the sheriff’s office said. The minivan was driven by their father, Robert Cremeans, 29, of New Lexington.
The minivan had come to a stop in traffic in a westbound lane of I-270 when it was rear-ended by an SUV driven by Sarah Christman, 29, of Grove City, the sheriff’s office said. The minivan was pushed into a car driven by David Johnson, 28, of Grove City, and Johnson’s car was pushed into a car driven by Caleb Ramos, 16, of Lebanon, Ohio.
The chain-reaction crash closed the westbound lanes for about four hours. The crash remains under investigation.
