VALDOSTA, GA : Driver seriously injured in Lowndes crash on Saturday, March 25th 2017
A Firday wreck resulted in serious injuries for a Hahira woman, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
At about 3:18 p.m., a trooper was dispatched to a crash on Shiloh Road about 100 feet south of Miller Bridge Road in Lowndes County, said Cpl. Chris Kelch with the patrol's Valdosta post. A white Toyota Corolla, driven by Rebekah Anne North, 23, of Hahira was traveling north on Shiloh Road attempting to negotiate a curve, he said.
A silver Kenworth T880 tractor-trailer, driven by Wesley Lee Griffin. 59, of Valdosta was traveling south on Shiloh Road attempting to negotiate the same curve, according to Kelch. The tractor-trailer was owned by Reames and Sons Construction of Valdosta. The Corolla traveled across the center line into the southbound lane of Shiloh Road and struck the driver’s side front end of the Kenworth, Kelch said.
The Corolla then spun and traveled off the east shoulder of the roadway, going into a ditch, he said. After impact, the Kenworth traveled to the east shoulder of the roadway into a ditch, Kelch said.
North was trapped and extricated using the jaws of life, then was flown by life flight to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for her injuries, he said.
Griffin sustained minor injuries to his arm but was treated on scene, Kelch said. Both drivers were properly restrained and air bags deployed in the Corolla, Kelch said.
No drugs or alcohol are suspected to be a contributing factor in this collision. The road was closed until about 6:43 p.m. hours. North was in stable condition in the intensive care unit of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Saturday afternoon, Kelch said. This crash is still under investigation and any possible charges are pending.
