KNOX, NY : A motorcyclist is dead and his passenger seriously injured following a crash in Knox on Thursday, August 31, 2017
Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple says deputies received a call at about 4:35 p.m. Thursday, for a crash involving a car and a motorcycle in the area of Thompsons Lake Road and Old Stage Road in the Town of Knox.
Investigation and witness accounts showed that a car being driven by a 66-year-old Guilderland woman was traveling northbound on Thompsons Lake Road and collided head-on with a motorcycle traveling southbound.
The investigation showed that the motorcycle, being driven by a 28-year-old male from Delanson, failed to navigate a corner, crossed the double yellow line into the opposite travel lane, and collided with the car. The motorcycle's driver was pronounced dead at the scene, and his passenger, a 27-year-old female from Cobleskill, was ejected. She was airlifted to Albany Medical Center Hospital with serious injuries.
The Sheriff said the driver of the car was not injured.
Assisting with the scene was the Albany County Sheriff's Office Patrol division, Albany County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit, Albany County Sheriff's Office Drone Unit, New York State Park Police, Albany County Sheriff's Office Paramedics and EMS, Guilderland EMS, Helderberg EMS, Altamont Fire and Rescue, Knox Fire and Rescue, East Berne Fire and Rescue and the State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
