Oklahoma City, OK : Wrong-way crash that killed 6-year-old boy on the Kilpatrick Turnpike on Thursday, 23rd August 2018
A judge Thursday chose life in prison for an Edmond man who caused a fatal head-on crash by driving the wrong way on the Kilpatrick Turnpike.
Killed was a 6-year-old boy known for his fun-loving spirit.
Kelly Waldon Corn, 48, had methamphetamine and pain killers in his system at the time of the deadly wreck in north Oklahoma City on Easter Sunday in 2015. Corn pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and chose to have the judge decide his punishment.
He'll be eligible for parole when he's in his 80s.
During the emotional sentencing, Corn apologized to the boy's parents, Steven and Shavon Watley.
"I am remorseful and I understand your anger. I do accept responsibility," he said. "No words can explain how I feel. ... I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart."
Oklahoma County District Judge Cindy Truong then announced the punishment, telling Corn, "You deserve every day of that life sentence for what you put the Watleys through."
The judge also ordered Corn to pay $64,500 in restitution.
