Hugoton, KS : Man killed in fiery crash in southwest Kansas on Tuesday morning, March 29, 2017
A man was killed Tuesday morning in a fiery two-vehicle crash in southwest Kansas, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 10:29 a.m. about 9 miles north of Hugoton on K-25 highway in Stevens County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said a 2001 Chevrolet Venture minivan was traveling west on Stevens County Road Y when it ran a stop sign and crashed into a trailer being pulled by a 2015 Kenworth semi, which was traveling south on K-25.
The Chevrolet minivan caught fire after the impact.
The patrol said the driver of the minivan, James B. Barnham, 28, of Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene. The patrol said it wasn’t known whether Barnham was wearing a seat belt.
The semi’s driver, William D. Parks, 46, of Garden City, and a passenger, Andrews Dominique Ortegon, 16, of Garden City, weren’t injured. Both were wearing seat belts, the patrol said.
