An Allentown man was killed late Tuesday when an SUV collided with a motorcycle he was riding in Lyons, state police said this morning.
Carlos Hernandez, 23, was thrown from the motorcycle after the crash just before 11:30 p.m. at State Avenue and Kemp Street, and died at the scene, officials said.
The driver of the SUV, Nayem Quadir, 22, of Philadelphia, was taken by ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital, near Allentown, where he was treated for minor injuries.Hernandez was pronounced dead at 12:30 a.m. by Berks County Deputy Coroner Kurt E. Katzenmoyer. A ruling on the cause and manner of death is pending the investigation.
Troopers said Quadir was driving westbound on State Avenue when he turned left onto Kemp Street and his SUV collided with the eastbound motorcycle driven by Hernandez.
Quadir was wearing a seat belt and the vehicle's air bags deployed.
Hernandez was wearing a helmet.
State Avenue was closed between Kemp and Main streets for four hours while police investigated.
