MARION,MA : Man killed in Route 6 motorcycle crash in Marion on June, Saturday 24th 2017

Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday night on Route 6 in the area of Hermitage Road in which a man was killed.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Marion Police and Fire/EMS responded to the crash at 10:16 p.m., and the motorcycle’s male driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said initial investigation indicates that the motorcycle was travelling east on Route 6 and struck the sidewalk curb on the eastbound side on the road, then struck a utility pole. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash. The driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Officers Kris Smith and Jeffrey Habicht, with assistance from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Route 6 was closed in both directions for about three hours, while the crash was investigated.

Mass DOT assisted at the scene.
