Odenton, MD : Woman dies and three others seriously injured in a two vehicle accident in west county on Tuesday morning, Oct 13, 2015

A woman died in a two vehicle accident in the Odenton/Gambrills area Tuesday morning, said Capt. Russ Davies, Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman.

Police identified the woman as Gambrills resident Shannon Elise Fearon, 28.

The accident on Burns Crossing Road and Bluegrass Way near Route 175 left Fearon, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry, and three people in a 1999 Dodge Durango, trapped, Davies said. Two children, 4 and 7, were transported by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Johns Hopkins Childrens Center with serious injuries, Davies said.

A 33-year-old Odenton man was also transported by helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with critical injuries, he said. The woman was pronounced dead on the scene, Davies said.

Preliminary investigation the Dodge was traveling southbound on Burns Crossing Road when it failed to negotiate a turn, began to skid, crossed the centerline and struck the northbound Camry head-on, said Lt. Ryan Frashure, Anne Arundel County Police spokesman.

Speed was a factor but there were no signs of alcohol use, he said. All occupants of the vehicles were wearing seat belts.

No further information was available.
