Lebanon, NH : Interstate 89 re-opened after fatal crash, wires down on Wednesday July 2nd 2014
Interstate 89 in Lebanon was shut down Wednesday because of downed power lines and a fatal rollover crash.
State police said a tractor-trailer hauling a large piece of equipment clipped some power lines, which fell across the interstate near exit 19. Both sides of the interstate were shut down to allow utility crews to remove the wires.
During the road closure, a car that tried braking rapidly for the stopped traffic started to swerve and then rolled over several times. It came to rest off the side of the roadway on its roof, police said.
Emergency crews were able to get the driver out of the car, and she was taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. She later died of her injuries, police said.
The driver's identity has not been released. Police said the crash is under investigation.
Transportation officials were able to re-open the interstate shortly after noon.
