Rayne, LA : 1 dead in crash south of Rayne on Monday, 4th May, 2020
A Rayne man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving struck a car on Louisiana Highway 35 Monday night.
State Police say the crash happened just after 7:30 p.m. on May 4 and claimed the life of 38-year-old Richard John Koch.
The iniitial investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Koch was driving a 2001 Suzuki motorcycle southbound on La. 35. At the same time, a 2016 Toyota RAV-4 SUV was traveling eastbound on Standard Mill Road.
The SUV reportedly failed to yield and was struck by the oncoming motorcycle.
Despite the fact that he was wearing a DOT-approved safety helmet, Koch received fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the other vehicle was properly restrained and was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to authorities.
Toxicology samples were obtained from both drivers for analysis.
The crash remains under investigation.
