Two East Texans killed after vehicle collides with motorcycle

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 51-year-old Darryl Towne of Whitehouse was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident Wednesday morning on Highway 14, just north of N. Loop 323.Towne was driving a Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Highway 14 around 3 a.m. when he was hit head-on by a Dodge Charger. The car was driven by 22-year-old Payton Herrington of Lindale. Herrington was attempting to pass a semi-truck in a no passing zone when she collided with Towne's motorcycle.Herrington was transported to a local hospital where she later died from injuries sustained during the crash.The Smith County Sheriff's Office closed both lanes of Highway 14 after the wreck occurred. The roadway has now been reopened.
